Common Name: hand of glory
Scientific Name: Homo Sapien maleficarus

Details:

This specimen is a rendition of the classic folktale known as the hand of glory.

On a full moon a witch would remove the hand of a hanged felon at the crossroads. It would be marinated in the burial shroud and herbs, then allowed to sun dry until fully mummified. Then a candle was made from the fat of a hanged man, horse dung and virgin wax.

The candle could now be used by the seasoned sorceress to cast make motionless and insensible any inhabitant of any home.

While I have no compunction against horses, there is no dung in this gaff. The hand itself is made from resin and hand painted, while the candles are hand dripped throughout creating an eerie effect.
